Start with your headphone plug.
For a simple 3.5mm wired setup, the KA11 is the most straightforward starting point here. If you already use a 4.4mm balanced cable, consider a device with that output. A new DAC should solve a connection or playback problem; a larger specification number alone is not a reason to buy.
Three models, different priorities
| Model | Headphone output | Why consider it? | Before buying |
|---|---|---|---|
| FiiO KA11 | 3.5mm | Compact adapter for an ordinary wired headphone plug. | USB-C and Lightning versions exist. Select the connector that matches your phone. |
| Kiwi Ears Allegro Pro | 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced | For a setup that needs the balanced socket or the manufacturer's advertised Nintendo Switch mode. | This is the Pro. Do not use the original Allegro's chipset or power figures to judge it. |
| Moondrop Dawn Pro (original) | 3.5mm and 4.4mm balanced | A comparison reference for listeners using both plug types. | Confirm the exact version and a current seller; we do not have a verified purchase link for this original model. |
These connection facts come from the manufacturer sources below. The recommendations are editorial judgments, not a listening-test ranking.

Four checks for your phone setup
- Match the phone port. Read the selected variant, not just the listing title. A USB-C plug and a Lightning plug are different purchases.
- Match the headphone cable. Check the plug on the cable you will actually use. If you want a balanced connection, check the headphone manufacturer's cable requirements before ordering accessories.
- Confirm calls and controls separately. A music-playback claim does not establish microphone, inline-button or game-chat compatibility. Check those functions for your exact phone, app and headset if you need them.
- Consider daily handling. Check clearance around your phone case and whether the cable arrangement suits your pocket or desk. Buy from a seller whose return terms let you resolve a compatibility problem.
What changed in this comparison?
The earlier article mixed the original Allegro's name and specifications with a purchase link for the Allegro Pro. This revision identifies the Pro consistently. Kiwi Ears describes dual ES9603 operational amplifiers; those amplifier names are not a basis for assigning the original Allegro's DAC chip to this product.
We also removed the unsupported Dawn Pro power figures and the blanket claim that ordinary phone adapters use low-grade chips. We have not measured these products or established an audible improvement over your existing adapter.
