The short answer
There are three products in this shelf space: a USB dongle (no battery, no wireless), a Bluetooth receiver/amp (a battery, no cable to the source, still drives wired headphones), and a battery-powered portable DAC/amp (a battery and a wired USB connection, the largest of the three). If the music comes from a phone you hold and you want no cable at all, buy the second. If the goal is more output for harder-to-drive headphones, buy the third. If it is just "better than the phone's own jack", the first does it for a tenth of the money.
1. What is actually in stock in Canada today
Read on Amazon.ca — or from the brand's own store where noted — on September 17, 2026. Currency is CAD unless stated.
| Model | Price | Type | Seller shown | Stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FiiO KA11 | 21.99 | USB dongle | FiiO listing | No headline price on later reads — listing showed "See All Buying Options" |
| iFi GO link | 95.82 | USB dongle | Amazon US | In stock |
| TempoTec Sonata BHD Pro | 106.05 | USB dongle, 3.5 mm + 4.4 mm | TempoTec Official Store | In stock |
| FiiO BTR13 | 119.15 | Bluetooth receiver/amp | Amazon US | Only 1 left |
| FiiO BTR7 | 179.30 | Bluetooth receiver/amp | Amazon US | In stock |
| iFi GO blu | 199.00 | Bluetooth DAC/amp, 4.4 mm + 3.5 mm | White Room Electronics | Only 1 left |
| Fosi Audio MD3 | 209.99 | Portable DAC/amp, USB-C | Fosi Audio | In stock |
| iFi hip-dac 3 | 293.67 | Portable DAC/amp, USB-C, 4.4 mm + 3.5 mm | Amazon US | In stock |
| Topping G5 | 399.00 | Portable DAC/amp with LDAC | SHENZHENAUDIO | Usually ships within 4–5 days |
A note on the KA11 row: the listing carried CAD 21.99 earlier on the check date, then showed the "See All Buying Options" state with no headline price on later reads — the same intermittent price rendering we record wherever it happens. CAD 21.99 is the last figure we could read, not a figure we can currently reproduce.
2. The three categories, priced honestly
The dongle tier (CAD 21.99–106.05). Small, no battery, nothing to charge or lose. One documented caveat: the FiiO KA11 does not support wired microphones, so a headset's inline mic will not work through it even though playback does. If the goal is simply better output than the phone's own jack for the least money, this tier wins — the connector questions are covered in the dongle guide.
Bluetooth receivers (CAD 119.15–199.00). These clip to a shirt or sit in a pocket, pair with the phone and drive wired headphones, so the headphones keep a cable but the source does not. The FiiO BTR13 and BTR7 sit at CAD 119.15 and CAD 179.30, and iFi's GO blu adds 4.4 mm balanced output at CAD 199.00. Two of those three listings showed only one unit left on the check date — normal for marketplace stock, and worth knowing before planning around it. The deeper Bluetooth comparison, including the Qudelix-5K and Shanling UP4, is in the Bluetooth guide.
Battery-powered portable DAC/amps (CAD 209.99–399.00). This is the group that competes on output. The iFi hip-dac 3 is CAD 293.67 on Amazon.ca from Amazon US; iFi's own store prices it at USD 229.00 and states a 1-year manufacturer warranty, 30-day return and free shipping, describing the feature set as USB-C input with 4.4 mm and 3.5 mm outputs plus iEMatch for sensitive in-ears. The Fosi MD3 at CAD 209.99 is the cheapest new entry, sold by Fosi's own store. The Topping G5 at CAD 399.00 from SHENZHENAUDIO is the top of the range and the only one whose listing highlights LDAC wireless — it ships within 4–5 days rather than immediately.
3. The model that is not in Amazon.ca at all
The Qudelix-5K, the most-recommended device in this category, has no Amazon.ca listing — two searches of the Canadian store on September 17, 2026 returned only third-party mounts and cables. It is bought direct: the Qudelix store lists it at USD 109.00 with a free-shipping threshold of USD 229, which converts to CAD 152.02 at the Bank of Canada rate for September 16, 2026 (USD 1 = CAD 1.3947) and lands at roughly CAD 169.57 in Alberta or CAD 181.73 in Ontario once GST/HST and the CAD 9.95 postal handling fee are added. The store's own policy block states that import duties, taxes and customs fees are not included and are the customer's responsibility. The full walk-through, with the alternatives that are stocked here, is in the Qudelix buying guide.

Read the Qudelix-5K record4. When it is worth buying at all
- Buy a dongle if the source is a phone or laptop, the headphones are easy to drive, and wireless is not needed. Nothing here beats CAD 22 for that job.
- Buy a Bluetooth receiver if untethering the source is the point and a battery to charge is acceptable. That decision lives in the CAD 119–199 band.
- Buy a portable DAC/amp if the headphones are the difficult part — high impedance or low sensitivity — and you want one box that also works at a desk. That is the CAD 210–399 band, and it is a different purchase, not a better version of the two above.
- Buy nothing if the phone's own output already drives your earphones at a comfortable volume. We cannot tell you what "better" sounds like; that is a listening judgement and this page does not make it.
5. What we could not verify
- Battery life and charging times for the hip-dac 3, MD3 and G5 — the manufacturer pages we could reach did not state them, and we will not repeat a figure we cannot source.
- Whether the G5's LDAC support covers every codec claimed in marketplace listings; the manufacturer page loaded without its specification text on the check date.
- Microphone support on any of these models. Only the KA11's answer is documented by its manufacturer (no), and that is a dongle.
- Whether the "only 1 left" stock states hold, and whether the KA11 price reappears — all are single-day readings.
- The Shanling UP4, which our catalogue lists: it has no verifiable Amazon.ca ASIN, so no price appears here.
- Anything about how any of these sound. No measurements, no listening notes.
